The Two Types of Import from New Jersey to Canada
There are two types of import for a vehicle when you choose to ship a car from New Jersey to Canada. If the car will be returning to the US at some point, it will be considered a temporary import – examples for this type of import include when you have temporarily relocated for work, are studying at a college or university in Canada, etc.
The temporary import regulations require that the vehicle is not sold in Canada, so if you do not already own the vehicle you are importing, it must change ownership in the US.
If the vehicle will remain in Canada, permanent entry is required. This type of import will require a tax payment to be made, the cost of which will be determined by your personal situation. We can advise on the best course of action and help with the paperwork that is needed.
